There
is very clear evidence that employers do value graduates
who can demonstrate some form of relevant work experience.
It can be a case of 'degree-plus' and that's an important
message to get across to students.

Introduction
There are large numbers of graduates looking for jobs, and employers
are looking for a range of skills, knowledge, abilities and
personal attributes in addition to degree status. As a student/graduate
you will need to develop a profile of skills applicable to the
workplace of the future. This seminar will focus particularly
on the value of work experience and how to make the most of
the transferable skills gained in the workplace.
Aims
This seminar has three steps:
- Understand what is meant by transferable skills and their
importance to employers.
- Make a realistic assessment of your transferable skills
gained in work experience and complete your own skill audit
and key skill statements.
- Identify ways in which you can improve your profile to
match employers' requirements and explore possibilities
for gaining additional work experience and skills during
your years at university.
