What have you gained from your work experience?

If you are fortunate enough to have had relevant experience, be able to describe what you did and achieved in some detail. Emphasise the benefits of being able to put theory into practice and the insight you have gained into that field of work.

Don't worry if your work experience is not directly relevant. Most jobs enable you to develop a host of personal skills. Take a job such as working in a fast food restaurant. This can provide evidence of:

  • working as part of a team
  • dealing with customers
  • presenting a professional and friendly image
  • mention anything which proves you did a good job e.g. achievements or promotions

Business awareness

Commercial employers usually also look for business awareness such as:

  • customer satisfaction
  • quality assurance
  • reducing costs
  • improving efficiency
  • customer satisfaction
  • comparison with competitors
