There are two parts to this question - You must answer both.

1. Why you chose to study at that particular University.
2. Explain why the subject interests you in terms of its subject matter, how it ties in with your chosen career, your interests or subjects you enjoyed at school/college.

Explain what was different about that course which particularly appealed to you e.g.

• broad grounding vs. specific,
• covered the area that interested you most,
• the way the course was structured/flexible,
• included work experience,
• more applied/practical/pure/theoretical
• assessment method (continual/exams),
• level of equipment provided / latest technology;
• department's reputation/ranking.
• say why that particular institution appeals using similar criteria as for department.
• mention anything which demonstrates you made a methodical and rational choice based on thorough research e.g. visited departments to compare them.
• Take ownership of your decision - don't imply some else made it for you
