International Graduates

Companies in the UK can recruit any graduate from any European Economic Area country without a need to obtain a work permit. For information on obtaining work permits for international graduates, see the UK Border Agency website: www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk

Are you recruiting for part time vacancies during term time or for vacation work/placement opportunities?

Students from the EEA, apart from the new accession countries and Swizerland  have NO restrictions on the hours or type of work undertaken.

Students from the new accession countries of Eastern Europe (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania , Slovenia , Slovakia) must apply for permission to work under the "Worker Registration Scheme" or, for residents of Romania or Bulgaria, the "Worker Authorisation Scheme". Details can be found on the website at www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk

Most non European nationals enrolled on a full-time course lasting more than 6 months are allowed to work

  • up to 20 hours a week during term time
  • full time over university vacations

without needing further permission as long as there is a "restriction" stamp in  their passport. These stamps will carry wording such as :

  • "able to work as authorised by the secretary of state"
  • "work(and any changes) must be authorised"

MSc Students are not officially on vacation so may not work more than 20 hours at that time but may work full time AFTER handing in dissertations. In addition they can undertake:

  •  A defined work placement which is required part of their course or study as long as it doesn't extend beyond the end of the course
  • A paid internship lasting not more than 3 months
