The level at which you need to recruit
Graduates can offer a great deal in the workplace, but in order to avoid unnecessary costs or a mis-match of expectations, you might want to consider the following points:
- Do you really want an academic high flier with a first class honours degree? Most other graduates will have similar skills and experience, and may even prove to be more of all-rounder in the workplace.
- Will a postgraduate fit you needs better than graduate? Someone with a CIPD accredited Diploma in Personnel Management could, for example, step straight into a personnel vacancy. On the other hand, you might prefer to offer training in your own business culture and techniques.
- If you wish to fill a technical post, a student with a more practically-based HND or degree might be more appropriate for your company.
