Case Study 4

I chose to study in Scotland because the course I was interested in doing is at Strathclyde University. I haven't come across any other university that offered the modules that I wanted to take. The facilities offered to students and the support given by some of the staff are some of the things I like the most. At the same time, I wish there was more understanding towards students who come from a different educational system. The people, the weather and the natural environment are the things that I like most about living in Scotland.

I have worked part-time since coming to Scotland. I've found work through ‘word of mouth' and from websites, including my Careers Service. It's really hard to find the jobs that I want to apply for without any help from somebody who knows the job market very well. I have had a few jobs since coming to Scotland. Every time I was paid what I had been told and the employers showed great flexibility in accommodating my needs, except in some rare instances. I really enjoyed and each every job I've done here.

I haven't decided if I would like to stay and work in Scotland. If I can get a good job, I would definitely work here for at least a couple of years, since I like the place and the people so much. If I stay, I am going to explore Scotland as much as I can because it is so beautiful.

I'm not sure if I will apply to the Fresh Talent Initiative, it depends on my career goals. If it is the best for my career, I won't hesitate. But I think its going to be tough to find the job I want in Scotland compared to the rest of the UK. If I am eligible for SEGS, I would prefer that since I will have much wider prospects for finding a job. Scotland is a beautiful place to study and live, but I'm not that confident when it comes to finding the job you want.
