Groups 3
Group problem solving (contd)
Analysis solutions
For some problems there is one 'best-suited' solution which is
achieved through analysis of available information and requirements.
When solving problems like this, groups are on average better than individuals,
but inferior to the best individuals.
Have you been involved in group exercises such as the 'Moon Survival'
(see opposite)?
Moon Survival
Participants have to pretend they are stranded on the moon. Individuals
first rank 15 items in order of importance to their survival and are then
asked to join a group to devise a group ranking. These are then
marked against the official ranking provided by the NASA space survival
unit.
