Working in Teams 2

Working in organisational teams (contd)

Being Part of a Team
Think back to our definition of a team.

A team is a group of people who come together to achieve a common goal.

The power of teamworking is that the output from the team is greater than the sum of the individual efforts of the team members.

As a team member you might have your own particular objectives you are pursuing, but remember there are objectives that the team as a group wants to achieve. Being part of a team means helping and supporting the other team members in pursuit of that common objective.

Example: Team v. Personal Objectives
Think about a football team.

Your objective might be to be a great goal scorer and so you attempt at goal when others in the team are in a better position to find the net. You may achieve your own personal objective but to the detriment of the team's overall performance.

Take care not to let your own personal needs get in the way of the team's performance.
Remember the slogan 'There is no I in Team'
