How to prepare effective presentations
Preparation takes about 9 times the speech time.

Initial considerations:

  • Purpose - aims and objectives

  • Information  - to be gathered

  • Timing -how long to speak?

  • Audience - size and subject knowledge 

  • Location - for travel and room layout

  • Logistics - size of room, equipment

Writing the Presentation:
Logical structure and sequence with a Beginning/ Middle/ End, so:

  • Easy to follow

  • Easier to deliver

Presentation notes:

  • Use note cards to help

  • Keep notes to a minimum - use bullet points

Visual Aids:
Keep simple so they:

  • Help understanding

  • Make a greater impact

  • Consider - the font used, the amount of information and colour

Rehearse
To ensure the presentation:

  • Follows a logical structure

  • Gets across the key points

  • Is geared to the audience type and size

  • Sticks to the time allowed

  • Remember that the first 3 minutes are critical
