Considerations 1

Initial considerations
Think about a time when you had to give a presentation, either socially or at university.

  • How did you go about it?

  • What steps did you take?

  • How did you collect the information?

  • What did you have to think about?

  • What was your aim in giving the presentation?

You need to start preparation well ahead of the delivery date. On average, the time required for preparation is nine times the speaking time.

You have probably come up with the following:

  • The purpose of the presentation

  • The information to be gathered

  • The timing, how long the presentation will last

  • The audience, its size and subject knowledge

  • The location of the presentation

  • The logistics, e.g. the size of room, equipment
