Running a project 1

Running a projectPhase 1
Think back to the four phases of a project (introduced in Module 1). Let's consider what you may need to do at each stage.

Phase 1 - Initiation and Definition
You need to start with a clear focus of what is to be achieved before you can start to make decisions and plan activities.

Hold a team kick-off meeting to discuss and analyse the project.

People or task oriented?
Although managing projects involves the organisation of tasks, the most successful project managers are those who are
people-orientated. People are the most critical element of a project.

It is important that you:

  • Communicate regularly with your project team and give them feedback

  • Support and motivate them
