A project has:

  • A defined start point

  • A defined end state

  • Pursues a defined goal

  • Uses a defined set of resource

Project management is the managing of resources to ensure project outcomes are achieved and completed within a time frame. 

The performance of a project is measured against

  • Time

  • Cost

  • Quality


Project phases:
Phase 1 - Initiation and Definition

  • The idea for the project is born

  • Potential solutions identified

  • Proposals prepared

  • Proposals defined in detail to decide whether to pursue it further

Phase 2  - Planning
Earlier plans redefined and you will need to:

  • Clarify the deliverables and delivery dates

  • Identify the activities and tasks

  • Schedule the activities and tasks

  • Manage the budgets

  • Allocate responsibilities

  • Establishing controls for review of progress

  • Put communication and reporting mechanisms in place

Phase 3  - Execution
When most energy and effort. Key activities are:

  • Reviewing progress

  • Monitoring costs

  • Controlling quality

  • Managing changes

Phase 4 - Integration/Handover
Project is delivered

Project Management tools include:

  • Ghantt charts
