The first step might be to think about:

• The colour scheme you are going to use

• Whether you are going to paper the walls or simply repaint them

You may look at books on home decorating or seek some advice from friends or parents on what a suitable colour scheme might be. This might help eliminate the risk of deciding on an inappropriate or unattractive scheme.

Phase 1 - Decorating your room
At this stage you are defining the specification and scope of the work.

• You look at wallpaper samples

• You try tester pots of paint

• You look at paint swatches to help you decide on a colour
