Perception 1
Perception
A person's perception affects communications.
Each person has their own view of reality. In other words, a group of
people may:
-
Physically see or hear the same thing, but have their own version
of what is seen or heard
-
Hear or read the same message, but apply a different interpretation
to it
-
We interpret information further by making inferences and drawing
conclusions
-
We base feelings and actions on our perceptions
-
Our interpretation of another's behaviour is based on values, beliefs
and experiences
Perception
Perception affects communications. This interaction shows the viewpoints
of three people to meeting the same individual:
Teenage Girl
He looked a bit like my Dad - but so boring in that suit. His tie was
cool, so maybe not that bad after all. He kept using long words I didn't
understand.
Thirty-something Male
Respectable, self-assured and smartly dressed - and his tie was rather
trendy. He knew his stuff and said all the right things.
Older Lady
What a smarmy young man - he was neat and tidy and with-it, but that tie!
He used a lot of jargon, I think he was trying to confuse me.
